The same would occur for London and its traditional allies. Without the British Crown all around us would, all of a sudden, belong to the past and all of us would only be museum guards of our nations«.

» And there is more, my friends, there is more «, Arthur warned lifting his forefinger, » a part of our own perception would get lost. Important personalities like the British Crown and the Pope in Rome represent living metaphors of our culture and history of our civilisation. They silently bear our thoughts and feelings by speaking and acting to the world expressing our own perception of things. You should also bear in mind that the Queen is not only
Queen of England, but also head of the Anglican Church and the Commonwealth. Top secret documents go via her office. Her Majesty furthermore connects Canada, Great Britain and Australia. The importance of the Pope in Rome is indisputable, especially during these times of religious conflicts between Christians, Jews and Muslims.«
About me:
I am a private detective for over 40 years with mutable skills and credentials.
I am a supporter of freedom, against dictatorship and oppression.
I am also in favor of monarchy; with a little more power to the monarch.

Re: Mac is Back!

They really are great, aren't they? :)

Re: Mac is Back!

Awesome! Diana wasn't a very good role model for either Prince, and of course, she's the one they take after. Instead of being serious like Charles, they party and holiday like their mother did. Beatrice and Eugenie are the same way. *sigh*

Re: Who’s taking the business of Monarchy seriously?

I think there's a certain 'damned if they do, damned if they don't,' where younger members of the family are concerned. Anytime I've read any type of commentary regarding Beatrice and Eugenie it's how they're a waste of taxpayers money with the cost of their security guards. They try but I don't think people take them seriously. Whenever I see them carry out engagements, I always think they must be twiddling their thumbs waiting for invitations. It's up to William and Harry to carry the torch and I don't hold out a lot of hope.

Re: Judaism vs. Protestantism

As high profile they may be I think in the case of the Trumps/Kushner families that it would be regarded as more of a private thing. What they do with their lives doesn't make headlines like the royal family. I would dare say that outside of New York society that their reach is limited, unless of course The Donald gets married again or some tragedy/scandal befalls one of them (Marla Maples anyone?) If it weren't for The Apprentice I don't think anyone would really pay much attention. I know that Ivanka was in Vanity Fair and Hello! Canada but I don't think the conversion compares to the Act of Settlement.

In this day and age of political correctness, I do think the Act is discriminatory. I'm sure that there was a reason for it (I don't recall what though) but it isn't applicable now. It's interesting that William can marry anyone else but a Catholic. However I'm guessing that there would be a major uproar over him choosing say a Muslim or even marrying outside of his race. While people are making a big deal of it there would be an uncurrent of racism - unspoken but there. Then the whole Catholic thing would look quite harmless to people and the powers that be, now wouldn't it? ;)

Re: Judaism vs. Protestantism

Peter and Autumn are a good example. A lot of people expressed disappointment that she converted to the Anglican faith, and stated she shouldn't have done it just to please the royals.

The Kushners are not royalty and neither are the Trumps, but as highly visible people, their blatant exclusion of anyone who isn't Jewish seems to run along the same lines as the Royal preference for non-Catholics and the Anglican faith. If people are so concerned, why aren't they complaining about the Kushners, too? If it's not right for royalty to discriminate, why not hold everyone to the same standard? Or, can we just consider this a private family matter that really doesn't affect anyone?

Re: Judaism vs. Protestantism

I'm not sure that people give the Act of Settlement much thought until it comes into question. The most recent example being Catholic Autumn Kelly marrying Peter Philips. She converted just in time for Peter to keep his academic place in line but otherwise people proabably don't consider it. Just like male primogeniture, it doesn't become an issue until a royal baby is born. If that child is a boy then leave things as they are, if it's a girl then "hurry up and change the law!!!".. ;)

Re: William and Kate: Is it time?

Yes, lots of predictions about when the wedding will happen - might as well use a Magic 8 ball! ;)

As much as I'd love to see a 2011 wedding I don't think they would have it at the same time as Victoria and Daniel. The interest William and Kate's wedding would totally overshadow the Swedish one. However, it's not as if it hasn't been done before. Mary and Frederick of Denmark were married a little over a week before Letizia and Felipe of Spain. The Spanish couple even attended their wedding!

Re: “Princess” training for the everyday girl

This sounds like a book that every young woman in today's society could benefit from reading.
